Winter Reprieve at the W Fort Lauderdale
/The W Fort Lauderdale was a welcome sight a couple of weeks ago. Fleeing the Blizzard, Winter Storm Jonas, in the cloak of darkness aka 3AM was rough. Let’s just say I was barely conscious on the uber ride to the airport.
Once we were at the airport it was a breeze thanks to Jetblue Mosaic. I finally qualified for elite status on Jetblue which is their Mosaic program. How did I do it before? You skip the bag & ticket line and your luggage gets flagged so it is the first bag to hit the belt when you land. Did I mention Mosaic allows to checked bags, for free. After that you get expedited security with the even more speed lane. This is basically the TSA Pre line, which I already have but still a great feature. Additionally, you get seat upgrades when available, and you board the plane first. I love special treatment!
I have been staying at the W Hotel Fort Lauderdale for years. This property has a true resort feel, no reason to leave. Well, except for Starbucks which is a short stroll down to the neighboring Westin. You have the beach right across the street, the hotel’s pool is on the 4th floor giving you the view of the ocean without the sand & the crowds. Personally, I am more poolside fabulous than beach bum, but to each his own.
Great event & lounge spaces provide a great spot to meet up with friends & other hotel goers. The signature living room is a bit dark for being at the beach, but a hotel insider told me they are getting ready to do a multimillion dollar renovation of any of the public spaces, so they will likely address that.
The vibe was lively & fun. They even had a step & repeat, you know I love a photo op, so this was perfect for IG.
The rooms are comfortable, simple & fresh, exactly what you need a beach getaway. I almost has the I could move right in feeling, which is probably while they are selling condo versions in a second tower at the hotel. The views from the room are purely stunning. Catching a sunset is magic.
Great dining exists on the ground floor. I had dinner & breakfasts there which I really enjoyed. In the evening, the restaurant has quite the buzz all the tables were jammed & the restaurant was really alive. Such a stark contrast to the tranquil jellyfish aquarium calming circulating. With a view of the beach, having breakfast outside on the patio is absolutely my recommendation. Plenty of Vitamin D with my morning espresso.
